A week-long group cycling holiday in Mallorca in January focused on tempo base miles is perfect for building early-season endurance in a mild, scenic setting.
Here’s what to expect on a January tempo base miles cycling holiday in Mallorca:
Daily Rides Focused on Endurance
- Structured Rides: Each day includes a planned route designed for consistent effort at tempo pace.
- Expect rides that are steady, with enough intensity to build aerobic endurance but moderate enough to avoid burnout over the week.
- Ride Duration: Distances vary but will be an average of 100 kilometres, depending on the day’s route and rider ability. Most days will include 3-5 hours on the bike, with manageable elevation to practice endurance and steady-state pacing.
- Terrain Variety: Mallorca’s varied terrain offers rolling coastal routes, flat rural roads, and optional climbs. Routes are selected to focus on sustained, manageable efforts, so riders can maintain tempo without straying into high-intensity work.
Itinerary and Daily Structure
- Morning Start: Each day kicks off with a relaxed breakfast in the hotel in Palma, followed by a warm-up spin as a group, allowing riders to ease into the day.
- Group Structure: Rides are led by experienced guides who keep the group together at a steady pace so everyone can maintain a comfortable pace without feeling pressured.
- Steady Tempo Pace: The focus is on maintaining a steady, manageable tempo pace throughout the ride. Ride leaders set a rhythm that encourages aerobic endurance, where conversation is possible, but riders feel a solid, controlled effort.
Route condition
The routes we are riding are mainly quiet with a few busier sections when we reach the towns .
These require care and experience with road cycling . Roads are suitable for road bikes and well surfaced.
Accomodation
4* Hotel in Palma on a half board basis.
Bike Maintenance and Mechanical Issues
We have bike cleaning materials and basic tools such as allen keys, lubricants and pumps, so you can maintain your bike daily.
However it is helpful for everyone to know how to replace a tube or repair a puncture/flat, we are on call to assist with minor mechanical issues that can be addressed roadside.
